Mortgage Fraud, Foreclosures and Neighborhood Decline Meeting, March 31 to April 1, 2009

In 2009 the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) hosted a meeting in Charlotte, NC, to examine the problem of mortgage fraud, foreclosures, and neighborhood decline. This Web page presents information from that meeting. The main focus of the meeting was how increases in foreclosure rates can lead to immediate and visible increases in crime thus damaging the fabric of a neighborhood, city, or town. The meeting focused on three main themes that relate to crime and foreclosures: mortgage fraud, intimate partner and domestic violence, and the onset of crime in neighborhoods with high rates of foreclosure.
