Abstract
Direct links to some 75 resources on the Web are provided within the context of this presentation material. Each paragraph provides a full description of the organization, its resources and Web site address, and detailed information regarding all research, resources, and information available within the sites. The categories of information include: general internet research tools, scientific associations and societies, universities, government contractors, doctors and healthcare facilities, pending and litigated lawsuits, deposition transcripts, published works and periodicals, listservs, bulletin boards, blogs, jury verdicts, and public reports. The online expert witness directories aid researchers in finding specialists with specific expertise. An association concerned with the defense of civil actions provides archived depositions as well as briefs, pleadings, verdicts, settlements, and other related information. Bar associations sites include online expert witness directories with personal biographies and contact information, links to e-mail addresses, and experts’ personal Web sites. Some sites include listings of investigators, process servers, court reporters, consultants, and litigation support professionals. A database of associations contains detailed descriptions of 135,000 membership organizations in all fields. University sites are provided which include articles, presentations, dissertations, and theses written by professors and students. An Excluded Parties List System lists individuals/entities excluded from receiving contracts or financial assistance from the Federal Government. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations site contains a directory of HMOs, hospitals, medical laboratories, behavioral healthcare facilities, assisted living facilities, and office-based surgeons. There is even a Medical Malpractice Expert Witness Depositions and Testimony Database. The National Association of State Jury Verdict Publishers includes a free directory of more than 25,000 experts who have testified in civil jury trial across the United States in the last 5 years. Additional resources provide portals to comprehensive lists of public records for States, counties, most cities, municipalities, and even access to foreign records.
