This is a guide to using the resources of the World Wide Web in the study of criminology.
Abstract
This tutorial assumes the reader has available web browsing software with a direct Internet connection, preferably Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 or later. The document assists the reader in exploring particular issues within the field of criminology by accessing specific web sites. Topics covered include: (1) getting started on the web; (2) crime statistics on the web; (3) crime causation on the web; (4) community crime prevention on the web; (5) electronic journals; (6) discussion lists; and (7) selected URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). The guide also discusses the scope of National Institute of Justice services, electronic publishing, the National Criminal Justice Reference Service online, information exchange, online conferencing, the Justice Technology Information Network, global outreach, joining the United Nations, building capacity, training, planning the future, and the Partners Against Violence Network: A Model of Internet Use.
