NIJ's Office Research and Evaluation
The Office of Research and Evaluation develops, conducts, directs and supervises research and evaluation activities through
extramural research — which involves outside researchers who often collaborate with criminal justice practitioners — and intramural
research, conducted by Office staff. Such research and evaluation cuts across a wide array of distinct topics authorized under
the Institute's charter. The Office identifies priority issues and builds knowledge that informs policymakers, practitioners,
researchers, and interested members of the public.
